Shinty Chaplain

The Camanachd Association has appointed its first chaplain to the sport of shinty, at the Kyles Club in Argyllshire.  It hopes the initiative will be of particular value at a time when suicide is the leading cause of death amongst young men in the Scottish Highlands and when the sport has been shocked by the deaths of a number of players who took their own lives. The report begins with the thoughts of Gary Innes, one of shinty’s most successful players and a well known folk musician and BBC Radio Scotland presenter.

The Moidart Mission

Catholic parishioners on the remote Moidart peninsula, in the West of Scotland, are dismayed at the theft of a medieval hand bell from the ancient religious site of St. Finan’s Isle on Loch Shiel.  The theft occurred as the congregation celebrates the 250th anniversary of  the Moidart Mission when a young priest was sent by Rome to re-establish the church after decades of repression under the Penal Laws.  The report begins with a boat trip out to St. Finan’s Isle.
